Supplement your Adventures! A Guide to Wellness on the Road.

Summer is here and, along with warmer weather and longer days comes more time spent OUT. Out of doors…trips to the beach… and maybe even some long-distance travel. While the health benefits of getting out of the house and spending time outdoors are well-documented(1), we still need to support our bodies… especially given the increased stress we put on them while cartwheeling our way through fields and jet-skiing into the sunset.

Here are some supplements to consider for your next trip to help you stay well and get the most out of your fun!

A Multivitamin:

Even positive stressors, such as vacation and travel, can impact our bodies. When we get depleted, things such as immune function and energy can suffer. Start with a basic multivitamin to fill those gaps!*

A Probiotic:

Are you traveling abroad? Trying new cuisines and visiting exotic new places? That sounds amazing! Even if you’re not, a great way to support your gut and your immunity is with a probiotic.* When traveling, I love a probiotic with added ginger, which can help soothe an upset stomach,* especially if I’m trying new things my body isn’t used to!

Helpful Hint: Most quality probiotics require refrigeration. If this is going to be a problem while you’re traveling, simply take what you’ll need with you, and leave the bottle at home in the fridge! This way, only a handful of probiotics will be exposed to warm temperatures, though they should remain potent for up to a week outside of refrigeration anyway. :)

An Energy Boost:

So you woke up early, hiked a small mountain, grabbed some food, and then headed to the beach for a surfing lesson, all before an evening yoga class followed by dinner and drinks. That’s tiring! How do you support your energy levels throughout an action-packed day like that? Don’t reach for the coffee! Instead, look for nutrients and botanicals that naturally support healthy energy, such as B vitamins, l-theanine-packed green tea, and beets. All of these support the body’s energy production, and can help keep you running.*

Herbs to Help Manage Stress:

So your family camping trip isn’t off to the best start. Your camper got a flat tire on your way to the campground, you realized once you got there that you left all the snacks at home, and guess what – it’s raining! These things happen, and when they do, it’s helpful to have soothing herbs that help you adapt to stress. Adaptogens and nervines such as Ashwagandha, Rhodiola, Skullcap, and Lemon Balm can help support your stress response and provide calm.*

Turmeric:

Finally, what about all the physical wear-and-tear the hike, surfboarding lesson, and yoga class caused? Setting up your tent and lugging firewood isn’t easy! To help support inflammation and keep your body running smoothly, Turmeric is a smart choice.* Don’t forget to look for a product with Black Pepper extract in it, which helps shuffle the turmeric into the bloodstream, where it can get to work throughout the body.*
